Roatán sits on the Mesoamerican Reef — the second-largest coral reef system in the world — and Try Scuba Diving is the easiest way to get a real look at it without committing to a full certification. You’ll learn the basics, get comfortable with the gear in shallow water, and then head out for an actual dive on the reef, guided one-on-one the whole way.

It’s a shallow dive, topping out around 40 feet — and that’s not a limitation, it’s actually one of the best depths on the reef. Enough light still reaches down there for the coral to show its real colors, and it’s where you’ll find the most life on a typical dive. For a first time underwater, it’s enough to get a genuine sense of what diving feels like — and for a lot of people, it’s enough to want more.

How the day runs

After breakfast at the Sunkenfish restaurant, you’ll start with the basics — how the gear works, what to expect, the safety essentials — before getting in shallow water to practice. From there, you’ll head straight out to the reef for your dive, with no break in between, and you’ll be back at the dock by around 12:30, ready for a well-earned lunch. If you want to keep going, you can add a second dive that same afternoon at 2:00 PM, or anytime later in your stay — just let your dive professional know.
