About an hour by boat from Roatán, Cayos Cochinos is a small cluster of islands set aside as a protected biological reserve — genuinely good snorkeling, diving, hiking, and bird watching, without the crowds.

Diving the sea mounts along the way

For divers, the trip out is as good as the destination. The sea mounts on the way to Cayos Cochinos are some of the most spectacular dive sites in the Bay Islands — dramatic underwater formations rising from deep water, well worth building into the day if diving is on your mind.

Once you’re there, expect an authentic lunch prepared by a local islander and a real look at daily life in the Bay Islands. Drinks are included, so there’s nothing to plan or pack beyond yourself.

Pricing

$200 per person, plus a $23 per-person island entry fee. Minimum of 6 people per trip.

This is a longer open-water crossing than our other boat trips, so it’s very much weather-dependent — rough seas can mean postponing or rescheduling, sometimes on short notice. If you want a full-day trip that’s less exposed to weather, our Pigeon Cay Trip is a great alternative — just as much of a day out, with mangrove canals, snorkeling with nurse sharks and stingrays, and a shipwreck and starfish field along a route that’s more sheltered overall.
